Swedish massage is the foundation of modern Western massage. It is structured around five different strokes and techniques; Effleurage (gliding), Petrissage (kneading), Friction (deep strokes), Tapotement (rhythmic percussion), and Jostling or vibration. Helpful in reducing pain and joint stiffness, it also has been shown to improve blood flow to the muscles and skin and increase circulation to the extremities.
Deep tissue work addresses areas of the body that are chronically tense, achy and feel contracted. It can be more intense than Swedish massage and often Swedish techniques are incorporated in the deep work. Deep tissue often provides a more long lasting effect than Swedish and can be quite profound as an effective tool to loosen and restore muscle balance and range of motion.
Geared towards athletes and fitness enthusiasts, sports massage is a vigorous type of bodywork. It is used to warm up muscle tissue, assist in training, prevent injury, and speed healing in regard to soreness and or injury. It is used before and after exercise as well as in the treatment of injuries such as sprains, strains, or tendonitis.
All muscle is covered by a layer of connective tissue called fascia which helps maintain posture and provides support for the muscles. It can become tight, resulting in constricted movement and chronic tension. "Myofascial release" refers to the massage techniques for stretching this fascia.
Specific techniques are taught for lengthening and balancing any area of the body that needs attention. Great for relieving muscle tension and reducing overall stress levels.
A variety of techniques are incorporated to assist in the moving of unnecessary or "stagnant" energy. The removal of these blocks clear up the path towards balance and harmony..the state in which our bodies naturally desire.
There are many chakras in the body. Chakras are energy centers which receive, express and assimilate life force. This treatment focuses on the seven main chakras, located on the central body ranging from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Balance is achieved through opening and cleansing through highly focused energy work.
Akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning "mind substance." In an Akashic Reading, the reader is psychically reading the mind substance or energies of a specific person. Past lives are accessed and can often provide insight to current patterns of behavior or unresolved issues. This information can be very liberating and allow greater ease in living in the present.
